If you are looking for something to do today why not take a nice drive to Lewiston to enjoy their Peddler’s Fair? It is today only!
If you will be in Redding around the 4th of July, you will be in for a great treat. Each year progressively, the fireworks display put on by the city has outdone itself. What is now a day-long activity of tents, chairs, family, fun and friends takes place at the Redding Convention Center along its grasses, sidewalks, roads and, basically, anywhere you can fit! From the water’s edge of the Sacramento River to the on-ramp of Hwy 44 people will be lined up to watch the great display, eat the great food and listen to wonderful music. Vendors will walk around peddling their wares while thousands feign off the heat long enough to enjoy the display.
Down the road at Sequioa Middle School the field will fill up with those that don’t want to walk all the way to the convention center but still want to take part in the action close by. The Garden Tract neighborhood is flooded with cars….some residents even selling parking spots in their driveway to lucky firework watchers so they can park close-by.
On the bluff overlooking the Sacramento, near the water towers on Hilltop Drive the same scene will erupt. As a young child this is where we watched, with gorgeous overhead views of the display and the river rushing by simultaneously.
For one brief day in Redding, and all across the nation, we pause. Taking a moment, only a moment in our “busy lives” to pay tribute to our country, the freedoms that it provides to us and those that have fought so valiently to provide us those freedoms.
4th of July will be spectacular this year, as it is every year in Redding and we hope you will join us in celebration.

The Lone Stranger and his sidekick have done it again! Year after year during rodeo week they seem to escape the authorities and rob a bank…this year it was the US Bank downtown on Pine Street. They have taken the money and hid it somewhere in Redding…always on public property and accessible to the public.
The public is encouraged to help ID the 2 robbers….both are always prominent Redding citizens.
Clues are given daily…The prize money starts out at $500 dollars and decreases by $100 each day until the loot’s recovered and the Stranger and Sidekick are named. Those who find the loot should take it to the Redding Chamber of Commerce at 747 Auditorium Drive. Those who guess the identities of the Lone Stranger and Sidekick should call 223-1188.
- Lone Stranger: Get moving and catch the dastardly Lone Strangers — the robbery was real, they have left the state. One left a boot we found too late.
- The Loot: It’s time to find the loot … put your mind in high gear … Rock of Ages — the help is near.

So…I promised my 2-year old that she could get some “cream”, or ice cream to us that speak the entire English language. We went toward Dairy Queen and pulled into the parking lot and immediately realized the mistake I had made! A quick inside-the-car shot:
There was a pre-Kool April Nites car show in the parking lot. Nearly every spot was taken by gorgeous, clean, shiny classic cars…hoods up, engines sparkling. My daughter said “cars…cars” and was in awe, as was I. This was just a sampling of what we will see on Friday night’s cruise!

Most of us have heard about this wonderfully educational exhibit from friends or family in large cities…now it is finally coming to Redding’s Own Turtle Bay Museum! Bodies Revealed is a fascinating and real look at the human body through actual human bodies. The bodies on display have been preserved using groundbreaking technology and is designed to show exhibit-goers the actual depth of what our bodies look like under the covering of our skin.
Turtle Bay president Michael Warren expects that when the exhibit opens May 24th it will be one of the most talked-about events ever at the museum….they are also expecting a record number of out-of-towners to come to the exhibit from hundreds of miles away. The cost of the exhibit For non-member is $23 (ages 13 – 64), $19 (ages 4 – 12 or seniors) and for members it is $16 (ages 13 – 64), or $13 (ages 4 -12 or seniors). Purchase at Turtle Bay or buy over the phone at (888) 225-4130.
The museum is also having Bodies Revealed Themed Events entitled “Figure Drawing Workshops” Tuesday, June 24th and Wednesday, June 25th from 5:30pm – 7:30pm in which Tina Casebeer teaches the art of figure drawing in connection with Bodies Revealed. In the two-part class, studenst will learn about gesture, shading, proportions and more. We have some built in benefits that will help players along their path out of the rat race and on to the fast track. Snacks and refreshments will be provided so players can focus and mingle between turns. The real key to the game is the more you play the richer you become.
